Beatles Road Manager to be rowed across the Foyle for BeatlesFest
Excitement is mounting in Moville over the arrival of Beatles Road Manager and head of Apple Records and Apple films, Tony Bramwell, on Wednesday this week. In fact it is mounting not just in Moville but as far away as Belfast.
He will be driven from Belfast City Airport to Magilligan By DJ Caroline Fleck of Downtown Radio
The plan then was for him to catch the ferry to Greencastle and then down to Moville.
Rowing Club
However, at their quiz in Rosatos last week the Moville Rowing Club offered to row to Greencastle and row him back to Moville.
Tony’s 65 now and although he’s seen exciting days with The Beatles and knew Dylan, Jagger, Hendrix, Springsteen etc. would he fancy being rowed across the Foyle by a bunch of strangers in a rowing boat after a long journey?
“Sure! As long as I don’t have to row” said Tony.
So it’s on.
Great Fun
Said BeatlesFest organiser Gerry McLaughlin, “It sounds like great fun. I’m sure that there will be a few people to meet him, including myself, at the Old Pier in Moville on Wednesday at around 8pm".
He will be on the 6:15pm or 7:15pm ferry.
The rowers are picking him at Greencastle at 7:30pm.
Said Gerry "I would just like to scotch the rumours, though, that I’ve just arranged this to save the fare on the ferry.
"We’re now looking for some local musicians, who are playing at the BeatlesFest, to play some appropriate Beatles songs as he comes ashore”.
Come Together
Tony will be in Rosatos on the opening ‘Come Together’ Thursday night of the BeatlesFest answering questions from a compere, from the audience, drinking his favourite Guinness and just chatting to people generally.
He will be in The Town Clock to do the same and see top Derry duo Oisin & Baz from The Thumping Jellyfish on the Friday night and he will appear with top Belfast Band Colenso Parade, who played a highly acclaimed gig at Glasgowbury recently, in the Caiseal Mara on the Saturday night.
He will also appear in Maguires and the Bar-A-Cuda, the other pubs in the festival, over the weekend.
Said organiser Gerry McLaughlin, the acts playing at the festival are both very excited and very nervous about meeting and playing in front of a guy who has heard The Beatles play the same songs many times. It’ll be a great scene at Moville pier when he gets out of the boat”.
