Claddagh

After the demise of the Foyle Hotel, The Claddagh pub in the main road of Moville has shut its doors.

The Claddagh was previously the Bar-A-Cuda and before that it was The Eggman and before that it was Terry's.

It must be the bar in the town that has had the most name changes.

The number of pubs in Moville has halved over the years, but the trend has gone up significanlty recently with three gone in the last few months

Halved

There used to be 16 pubs in Moville, but now there are only nine.

They are:-

The Town Clock
Maguires
Rosatos
McGettigans
Rawdons
Trawlerman
Corner Bar
Caiseal Mara
Susie's

Closed

Closed now are:-

Foyle Hotel
The Waterfront
Hair of the Dog (ex Anchor)
Claddagh
Winnie Diver's
Emerald
New Park
Welcome Inn

Downturn

I'm told that there was one other one as well but I'm not sure what it was.

One wonders what it will be like by the time that this savage downturn is over.

Hopefully some of them can open again, like The Waterfront, Foyle Hotel and The Claddagh (no doubt with yet another new name).

Winnie's certainly won't as it has recently been knocked down.

It's sad to see them fall away like that as they hold lots of memories for lots of people.
