James McDonald and Niamh Cregan took You Tube by storm a couple of years ago and haven’t stopped playing together since. They have become infamously known in bars and hotels around Inishowen and Donegal, as well as further afield now in Northern Ireland. I was fortunate to hear this young duo play together two years ago at a local friends bar-be-que and have been an avid follower of theirs ever since.

On hearing these kids play one will be mesmerised by the vocals of young Niamh. And equally impressed with James on the Cajun which creates a real bluegrass effect to the music. Both also play guitar throughout their sets.

Having played on a regular basis in a local bar in the Muff area before it’s closure, the residents of Muff never missed the opportunity to hear these talented youngsters. In recent months they have been playing all over Inishowen weekly and we in Muff have been denied the opportunity to continue hear them play. However, thanks to the reopening of the Point Inn, James and Niamh are once again going to be able to entertain the locals. On Saturday 13th April you will find them in the bar at the Point Inn and do pop along early to ensure a resting spot for the bum!

I’ve no doubt this won’t be the only date the duo will have in the Point as once they hear them and see how they delight the crowd, the Point Inn will be looking to secure them regularly. An authentic and original musical duo these two most definitely are.

James and Niamh can be found on You Tube at JAMESANDNIAMH11 and on facebook at James Niamh.
