The new, vibrant, contemporary preschool that is ‘Honey Bees’ is set to open its doors in Muff this coming September. Currently taking names for enrollment (3 seperate intakes throughout the school year), it really is an exciting time for Susan and Donna.HB 1
I spoke with the two ladies recently to see just what parents can expect from Honey Bees preschool when it opens. Just why should a parent send their child to this new hive of learning?
The outdoor space is clearly going to feature very highly at Honey Bees. An Enchanted garden is currently under construction and will prove to be a magical, fairyland forest for the children to explore and use that all important imagination.Honey Bees garden
Outside there will also be a sand area and there is going to be a Children’s Allotment. Here the children can plant their own food, nurture it and watch it grow. And when ready, they will be able to take their very own home-grown food home to enjoy at the kitchen table.
A floral area will also be part of the outdoor space which will not only provide a colourful visual element but also create awareness of their sense of smell. The entire garden will provide sensory experiences for all 5 senses.
Of course no outdoor child space is complete without a play area. This is currently under construction also! And no contemporary preschool is complete without some farmyard animals. Here at Honey Bees there will be chickens and rabbits for the children to again nurture and watch the animals live in this natural habitat. This will be yet another important part of Honey Bees learning hive.

The Barn which is currently in the garden will house the animals and will also provide an ‘indoor outdoor’ space when weather prevents the great outdoors being explored.
This wonderful outdoor hive of activity and learning will allow the children to experience the natural and traditional world. It will allow them to get lost in their imagination with the Enchanted garden. And it will allow them to be part of the natural world on a daily basis. It will enable them to become self-sufficient to a little extent with their home-grown produce. These experiences will all encourage the children to become aware of their environment and the natural world around them.
Indoors at Honey Bees there will be a variety of learning areas. Art and Craft alongside music will be a very important feature of the new learning hive. The library is going to be a striking area and these children will immediately be introduced to the magic world of books and storytelling. Honey Bees reading
The Construction Area will allow the children to avail of block building exercises, a facility to play with cars, trucks, diggers etc. This will also house a tool bench for all those budding carpenters and mechanics (both male and female!)
The House area of Honey Bees preschool will encourage the boys and girls in domesticity. No modern home is run by the female any more. Here at Honey Bees the girls assure me that the modern world will be at the fore ( I might enrol my husband and sons yet! )Honey Bees baking
Susan and Donna told me that “Here at Honey Bees we want the children to lead. We will encourage them to make their own choices. We, as their leaders will encourage, but the children will be a very important part of decision making.”
“We are going to encourage lessons in baking, science, music, fitness and much more.”
The girls are also providing wet gear so the Irish weather will not deter outdoor activities.
This new contemporary hive of learning is not just about fun and play. Through the mode of play, learning will be ever present. Colours, shapes, fine-motor skills, lace tying, button closing and many more skills will be developed throughout the learning year.
And to top it all the ladies then brought me along to show me their current stock of equipment. Nothing has been left out. These ladies have already secured all necessities for the new Honey Bees preschool. From learning to play, art to craft, building to reading, it’s all there ready to go. Just waiting on the fairy to move into the Enchanted garden over the coming weeks!!
Honey Bees Preschool will promote creativity and fun, growth and development, in a contemporary hive of learning.
