This week marks the first anniversary of a very special young lady from our community – Georgia Doherty. Georgia touched many people in her short life, most of all her family. Georgia sadly lost her life aged just 13, one year ago.
Earlier today I read a poem which her big brother Connaire wrote in memory of his little sister: it really touched me. With Connaire’s permission the words are below.
A year on since you have passed,
It’s been over a year since I’ve last heard you laugh.
As time passes
An occasional tear strolls down my eyelashes
But not because you are dead
It’s because of all the fresh memories
In my head.
I remember how we used to fight and bicker
But that only made our love grow stronger and thicker
Even though we never used to say that we loved one another
I’m going to sign off now.
Love from your big brother.
“Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy”.
Georgia is certainly one bright shining star shining down on Connaire and her family.
