I’ve just learned that The Irish Rugby Football Union have announced that it will not be offering a new contract to Declan Kidney.  When his current agreement ends on June 30th he will be officially finished with the team. However, his role as senior men’s coach ceases today.

Kidney has been thanked by the IRFU for his commitment, professionalism and his success with Irish Rugby to date.

When the Ireland  team tour North America this coming June, playing Houston on June 8th, and Toronto June 15th, they will be led by interim head coach Les Kiss, assisted by Gert Smal and Anthony Foley.

Philip Browne, IRFU CEO, said: “We would like to sincerely thank Declan for his commitment to Irish Rugby. His contribution and involvement across the spectrum of Irish rugby delivered underage, provincial, Grand Slam and Triple Crown success, and epitomises his passion, belief and commitment to the game.’

Here’s to the future of the Irish rugby squad and hopefully continuing success for many years to come. I hope I don’t need to put my beloved shirt away just yet…..
