9th Irish BeatlesFest Extends to 4 Days
BeatlesFest on the Lough in Moville
For the first time over the BeatlesFest on the Lough, Ireland’s only annual BeatlesFest will be extended from 3 to 4 days.
It will take place from Thursday, July 30th to Sunday August 2nd in the picturesque town of Moville in County Donegal which lies on the salmon-filled Lough Foyle. Live Beatles music will be played for four days in eight different locations inside and outside.
Coming along, once again, is Beatles road manager, PR guy and talent scout, Tony Bramwell. Tony has been coming since 2010. He said that he has been asked to be a worldwide ambassador for the Beatles by Paul McCartney and he goes to as many BeatlesFest as he can.
Tony once described the BeatlesFest in Moville as “the quaintest Beatlesfest that I go to”. He told a local journalist that he would like to retire there. Every year he makes a report on the DylanFest on the Lough to Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo.
Said organiser Gerry McLaughlin “He likes nothing better than to watch the acts while supping a pint of his favourite Guinness in one of the town’s great bars”.
BeatlesFest Opening Night
Michael Thomas, the American virtuoso guitar from New York will open the BeatlesFest in Annie’s Bar on Come Together night on the Thursday.
On the Friday, more bars will join in during It’s Getting Better Night.
It’s Here Comes The Sun Afternoon on Saturday followed by a Hard Day’s Night on Saturday night when 8 bars will have Beatles music on.
Sunday sees Strawberry Fields afternoon follow by Hello Goodbye night on the final night.
All Around The World
There will be acts from 5 different countries and Beatles fans from around the world will flock to Moville at BeatlesFest time.
Belfast duo, The Plasticine Porters, who turned up with their guitars last year and just wanted to play at the Open Mics and in the breaks of other artists , have been added to the bill in their own right after their popularity last year.
Said organiser Gerry McLaughlin “It gets bigger and bigger every year and we expect this one to be the biggest of the lot. Local hotels and Bed and Breakfast places are telling us that they are likely to be full by BeatlesFest time.
“We are asking local restaurants to create Beatles meals for their menus. Suggested are the Octopus’s Garden Seafood Platter, the Strawberry Fields Gateaux with Honey Pie and we’ve passed one the recipe of the Savoy Truffle to local restaurateurs.
“We’ve asked people to wear Sixties Gear to recreate the atmosphere and Tony Bramwell usually wears his official jacket and pass from the iconic Shea Stadium Beatles concert. The others have been great but this one should be the best one ever, It’s like the Sixties all over again”.
