Coronavirus in Ireland

Italy, which has the worst outbreak of coronavirus outside China, appears to be 2 or 3 weeks ahead of Ireland.

So, what would Ireland, and specifically, Moville look like in 2 or 3 weeks time?

Italy is to close all shops except food stores and pharmacies in Europe’s toughest lockdown yet as virus deaths and cases continue to mount.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said bars, restaurants, hairdressers and non-essential company departments would also close.

Bad News for Moville

That wouldn’t be great for he economy of Moville.

It’s not to say that this will definitely happen in Moville – but it could.

Italy is also banning trips to other parts of Italy unless the trips are essential.

If that happened here one would imagine that trips to Derry to shop might be out.

Also, there’s a good chance that the buses would be off.

Act Now Before it is Too Late

Indeed, it might be an idea to get your hair done, or go out to a pub or a restaurant while you can.

It would be relatively safe as there are no reports of coronavirus in Moville just yet.

I noticed a good trade in the food shops in Moville this morning.

But perhaps Movillians are stocking up on the wrong things. After all, the food shops and pharmacies are the only shops still open in Italy.

It might be a good idea to get the things you need at other stores now, e.g. the Co-op or Tool Hire – especially those who use things from there to do their jobs.

It might be an idea to get a haircut too.

As I say, it might not come to that – but it might – and it has in Italy.

And it is better to be safe than sorry.
