It’s just one week now until Muff Festival 2017. The fun all kicks off with our Festival Queen and Mayoral Results on Friday Aug 4th in The Squealin Pig. This year has seen the revival of the Mayoral
campaign with much fun and antics in the build up to the festival weekend. Both Niamh McColgan and Luke McCorkell have already proved to be two excellent candidates for the chain. Both are raising money for some exceptionally worthy charities and although battling against each other, they are working very closely together also. Such is the community spirit in Muff.
The Teddy Bear’s Picnic this year see’s a change in entertainment with a delightful Punch n’ Judy Show and Parky the Magician in residence! Very worth a visit on the Saturday of our festival.
Field events get underway on Saturday from 10am with the craft fair running all day. Events on the day will include include; Its a Knockout, The Great Muff Bakeoff, Pet Show, Junior Talent, Rosebud/Junior Rose/Teen Rose: these will all be happening in the field on Saturday 5th August.
Free pony rides will be taking place in the field on Saturday and the festival are also very excited to have Corbally farm in the field all day. A host of animals will be present for kids (both little and not so little) to see.
In Your Space will have a unique combination of hula hooping and a variety of circus skills in their free workshop on Saturday afternoon – one definitely not to be missed!
Muff Red Cross will be hosting a campaign focusing on positive mental health and anti-bullying.
Saturday evening will round off with Battle of the Bands followed by a disco with our very own resident DJ Ois-Bosh.
Sunday morning is an early start as always – the now very popular lap of the Foyle cycle event leaves the village at 9am. Lenamore stables will be hosting their annual gymkhana beginning at 12pm. Field events will then get off to a relaxing start at 12pm with some gentle yoga (suitable for total beginners) followed by the fabulous Encore Contemporary Choir – this choir were exceptional last year and is one event you really don’t want to miss next Sunday.
The traditional events begin at 1.30pm starting with the Fancy Dress Parade accompanied by our very own Muff Youth Accordion Band: this is followed by the most difficult competition – the Bonny Baby 🙂
Growing in popularity every year the Horseshoes will begin at 3pm. This event is hugely competitive and always tongue and cheek fun to watch.
All field races will begin at 3pm and include a range of novelty events.
There will be a free workshop to learn about growing your own veg -suitable for all ages with free takeaway pot.
The very popular Wife-Carrying event takes place after the races – win your partners weight in be
er! This took place last year for the first time and proved very popular, very fun, and very entertaining. Bring the wife, partner, girl-friend along and carry her around the course. You might enjoy free beer for the weeks ahead!
The ever beautiful Songs of Praise event will take place in the Church of Ireland at 6pm – all very welcome.
Sunday evening entertainment continues with the Lorry Pulling event in McKenna’s car park and the Open Air Ceili in the festival field. There really is something for everyone at this festival.
Muff Red Cross will also be hosting a first aid session in the field, Birds of Prey will be on display and fortune telling going on. There will be bouncy castles, slides, games, side shows, disco domes and anything else we can pack in, in the field all weekend! Come out and enjoy a fabulous weekend in Muff Village!
