Creative Writing Class/Book Club for Children
Having run a successful Creative Writing Summer Camp for children in July, I am now setting up a monthly ‘Creative Writing Class/Book Club’ for children at Warrenview Manor in Muff.
The class will run on one Saturday per month and take two age groups. A morning class from 10.30am – 12.30pm for 6-8 year olds, and an afternoon class from 1.30pm-4.30pm for 9-12 year olds.
The monthly class will incorporate a combination of creative writing alongside reading skills for both age groups.

Benefits of Creative Writing for Children:
1. Creative Writing encourages children to use their imagination – not only is this fun but it teaches children to ‘think outside the box’.
2. Creative Writing develops reading, writing and learning skills – While writing, children are exploring words and grammar: later in school life this will help broaden their thought process.
3. Creative Writing develops self-confidence and Identity – in writing, children learn about themselves and see that they have the ability to create something unique.
4. Creative Writing teaches children about Empathy – when writing about a character, the writer must decide how that character feels? How they behave? This encourages children to be empathetic towards others in real life.
5. Creative Writing provides an emotional outlet – children have the opportunity to express certain thoughts and ideas in a safe manner.
Reading only serves to stimulate the imagination and it’s never too early to start writing and reading creatively.
I firmly believe that if children develop creative thinking at a young age, all subject areas in school will benefit as they progress through their education.
