Moville’s BeatlesFest on the Lough in Two Weeks
BeatlesFest on the Lough
It’s less than two weeks till the BeatlesFest on the Lough, Ireland’s only annual festival of Beatles music.
It’s now in its 9th year.
It has gone from strength to strength.
Whereas previously, Stuck Inside of Moville, the DylanFest on the Lough was always bigger than the BeatlesFest, last year they were pretty much equal in terms of visitors to the town and how much they spent.
Tony Bramwell and Moville
Tony Bramwell, the Beatles road manager, PR guy and talent scout as well as childhood friend of Paul McCartney and George Harrison, will be back.
He has been here every year since 2010 bar one.
He loves Moville and finds the people very friendly, so much so that he has thought of retiring here.
When you add his favourite tipple, Guinness, and what he says is one of the best bars in the world, Rosatos (and Tony has been in a few) it makes it one of his favourite weekends in the year.
Indeed, he makes a regular report on Moville’s BeatlesFest to Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
BeatlesFest Weekend
I say weekend, but the BeatlesFest, for the first time, will take place over 4 days rather than 3.
It will kick off in Annie’s Bar at 10pm on the Thursday night, which is Come Together night. Playing will be top American guitarist Michael Thomas from New York who now lives in Portstewart.
He pays regularly with Henry McCullough, who played with Paul McCartney’s band Wings, and who was the only Irishman to appear at Woodstock.
The Plasticine Porters
Making their first on-the-bill appearance will be The Plasticine Porters from Belfast. Last year they turned up with their guitars and played at Open Mics, at breaks in the main acts and after they were finished.
They have been rewarded with their own gigs this year after their success last year.
This is the first year that Annie’s has been in the BeatlesFest, although some of the best ever BeatlesFest gigs took place at the Bar-a-Cuda.
Also in the BeatlesFest for the first time under the new ownerships is the Caiseal Mara Hotel.
We also have festival regulars Rosatos, the Sean Ti and for the second year, The Redcastle Hotel.
It’s less than two weeks to go and excitement is starting to mount amongst Beatles fans.
It should be another great one.
