It is indeed the Muff Ladies ‘time of the month’ once more. The time for some fine wining and fine dining and some very fine chin wagging! Last night was the latest get together and as ever it was memorable. In more ways than one, and in so many ways that cannot be put in words.
The destination this month was The Custom House Wine Bar and Restaurant, Derry. The night kicked off to a fun loving start. All five ladies crammed into a little car (alongside the driver that is)….it was like squeezing in the extra few heads on the minibus on the way home from the nightclub many years ago! And then ducking when spotting the law on the roadside. There were a few creaky necks on entering the Custom House but that was soon forgotten!

Alas, we got to our said destination and were immediately welcomed by the lovely Danny. Being an ex Muff man himself he welcomed us with a smile!!!! Or maybe he was just thinking ‘Dear Lord what awaits us?’ And then we were introduced to our lovely waiter Séan who not only took extra good care of us for the night but ‘escorted us to our table’. We did tell Danny that we were more used to being ‘escorted’ out of bars as opposed to into them. But that was the phrase used!
As we were escorted to our table, we decided on wine being the first item on the nights agenda. Once poured there was non-stop laughter and catching up. And of course Séan didn’t eavesdrop at all!!
The Carn lady, now all settled in her new home, filled us in on her life in the fast lane (that’s Carndonagh). She misses her wonderful neighbours of course (the ones over the hedge that is!) but is happy and content in the new pad.
The ladies all had a story to tell. There was the one about why a flower on the back of a swimsuit can cause panic. And the one about how messing around in the swimming pool can lead to a dramatic rescue. And then there was the one about power napping by the side of the stage whilst out for a night. Oh the stories were plentiful as ever. There was even the wine infused memory loss! In fact there was wine infused everything.
The detailed stories can never be revealed as each lady now knows too much about each other, and revenge would be dangerous! Oh I dread to imagine!
But as always the ladies had a cosy, fun infused evening. And the food took centre stage (even over the wine). This was fine dining at its best. Not a single flaw could be placed on the food that was served. Between duck, chicken, lamb and the steak, it was food heaven all round. And as for that carrot soup starter, mmmmmmmmmm.
It was suggested at the end of the night that Brendan O’Carroll must be invited one night with the Muff Ladies. There’s definitely enough content for a Mrs Brown movie on just one sitting with these gals.
As we left the Custom House last night I popped into the ‘Library’ downstairs only to discover that the books are not ‘real books’. Oh the disappointment! Danny, I want books next night!
And so another ‘time of the month’ is over for the Muff Ladies. But yet another is already in the pipeline. Here’s to it and to all the antics that will take place beforehand in order to fuel the evening ahead.
