It was written last night that these young men from Muff Naomh Padraig have created a little bit of history. These fellas became Northern Board Division 1 CHAMPIONS 2015 and in doing so have indeed made history. There were amazing scenes in MacCumhaill park as they became those Champions last night.

‘In what can only be described as one of the greatest games a team from Naomh Padraig Muff has ever played in their 25 years of history tonight in MacCumhaill park Naomh Padraig U-16s clinched the Northern Board League Division 1 title against a very strong MacCumhaills side. Played in perfect playing conditions MacCumhaills took the lead on the 3rd minute only for the boys from muff to respond with four quick points in a 8 minute spell through Aaron McColgan,Oisin O Connell and Denim McLaughlin(2). MacCumhaills then from the 10th minute began to dominate and wer on top and hit five points without reply and really looked like they were in control. But then in the 20th minute captain Eunan Mullan made a great run from deep and pulled a point back for his side with the game then a tough midfield battle McLaughlin then popped up to level just before the big moment in the game when an off the ball incident lead to Naomh Padraigs Aaron McColgan seeing red and leaving the boys from muff with it all to do. But it seemed to inspire the muff lads to push on and points from Mullan and Evan Craig left the half time score at 0-8 to 0-6 in favour of the muff men.
From the start of the second half Muff looked to press and immediately won a free which McLaughlin sent over with ease. MacCumhaills then began to settle and with a extra man starting to count within 8 minutes of the second half gone they had it all square at 10 points apiece but like all good players do Denim McLaughlin slotted over another free and had an assist in O’Connells goal to put muff up by 4 on the 16th minute. But MacCumhaills refused to ly down and pushed hard and knocked over 2 quick points but they hit a big sucker punch on the 23rd minute when they hit the back of the muff net and with 7 left to play and with a extra man the MacCumhaills support began to believe it was their night. But in the last minute of normal time Denim McLaughlin stroked over another free to leave it looking like extra time but with 33 minutes on the clock a quick 45 between McLaughlin and James Breslin let McLaughlin slot over his 8th point of the night to cap off a superb night for the Muff men and capture their first U-16 northern Board Division 1 title. It cannot be ignored the achievement of this team from such a small panel of players to stay undefeated in Inishowen and defeat teams like Letterkenny Gaels, St Eunans and MacCumhaills to win this title. They now move on to play Killybegs in the county semi final at the weekend.
