The producers of a new talent show have approached CraicOn.com as we run a Songwriters Contest.

This is what their email to me says:-

ARE YOU READY TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE?
TG4’s new talent show is looking for Ireland’s Top Busker

Calling all singers and musicians in Ireland! It’s time to take the busking turf wars to the next level in TG4’s new talent search show looking for Ireland’s top busker.

Everyday, on every main street in Ireland, singers and musicians busk for the public. Now they’ll have the chance to busk to the nation.

If you’ve performed on the street, or in front of a small or large audience; whether it’s just you with a guitar, or a group of singers or musicians, then this is the stage for you.

The series will be recorded in RTÉ Studios in late February, but applications for the show are being accepted now. From the applications, 100 acts will be chosen for the recordings and they will have their chance to showcase their talent to the nation.

Over the series a panel of 3 expert judges, from the world of music and song, will whittle all the acts down to an elite group of 10. The Top 10 will then battle it out, head to head, for the title of Ireland’s Top Busker and a cash prize. Competition is open to all ages.

CraicOn Comment

They have clarified that it is only musical talent that they want.

We have already sent them details of some acts which they have accepted for registration and the top 100 across the country will be selected in January with the show running in February.

From this area, they have accepted for registration The Yetis and Matt Whoriskey. From Derry they have accepted John Deery and his excellent band and Jack Craig who was runner-up to Matt Whoriskey in our last Songwriter Contest.

They have also accepted Lawrence Hackett from Cork, who won our first Songwriter Contest final in the Sean Ti and Sean O’Neill from Dublin who finished 3rd.

Local Acts

I’ve put forward Debbie and Geraldine, who finished 2nd, and am waiting to hear from TG4. I’ve also put forward Michael Thomas from Newtonstewart who has played the last three BeatlesFests in Moville.

I hope to put forward James O’Donnell when he gets back from sea and Melissa Craig if she ever replies to my email (busy student sitting exams).

Anyone wanting to be put forward should contact us at [email protected] and send some Youtube or soundcloud clips. If they are any good I’ll pass them on.

Lets hope we can get a few from this area into the later stages.
