The Foyle Bridge in Derry was 30 years old yesterday! Now at 30 years of age it’s a bit strange that the bridge is still often referred to as the ‘new bridge’. I remember well, back in the early ’80’s as a young teenager watching the boats carrying the different segments of the bridge up the River Foyle. Living in Quigleys Point our days were spent by the shore watching the passing traffic on the water.

The news was all about the ‘new bridge’ opening soon in Derry and how easy it would be to access the Waterside area of Derry and in particular how much more convenient it would be getting to Belfast etc.
The ‘Foyle Bridge’ is an integral part of the city and no doubt it will be referred to as the ‘new bridge’ for many years to come!
