The Turning

Luke McLaughlin plays with his band The Turning, normally, but he was back home in Muff for the weekend, so his manager got in touch with the BeatlesFest to see if he could play a gig at it. The Turning are big Beatles fans. Indeed their sound, it seems, is a mixture of Sixties Mod music and late Seventies’ punk.

What a performance young Luke, not yet turned 18, gave in the bar of the Redcastle Hotel. He’s already a great musician and great singer. The audience was shouting out for number after number. Even the bar staff were impressed and they’ve seen a few acts there.

Luke and The Turning operate out of West London but they will be back playing in Derry on the 23rd and 24th. I’d have loved to have seen them but it’s bang right in the middle of Stuck Inside of Moville, the DylanFest on the Lough.

It was some performance though. Tony Bramwell, who saw every gig the Beatles ever played after Hamburg, was in rapt attention as Luke played. Indeed he gave Luke a card and told him to send him a CD.

Tony discovered James Taylor and Eve Cassidy. Maybe he’s got one more discovery in him…..
