Derry City parkrun is a weekly 5k event in the city. I have only heard of this recently and today was my first time taking part. The event is staffed by volunteers and free to enter.
I embarked on my running just 4 weeks ago. Thanks to local fitness instructor Mia Funfitness, myself and 8 others were on Derry’s quay just after 9am for our 9.30am start. The route took us along the quay, across the peace bridge, down along St. Columb’s Park and back again.
Myself and a few others were a little nervous this morning. We needed have been! The parkrun officials all put us at our ease. They welcomed us and wished us well on the run. Afterwards we were congratulated on completion and asked to return as often as we liked. We shall certainly be returning.
Anyone interested in doing a weekly 5k, this is ideal. It’s fun and it’s challenging. And it’s free!
Here’s to many more parkruns in Derry!
