A hero’s welcome home for Inishowen U16 boys!
Just before 11pm last night a cavalcade of cars and the Inishowen team coach entered Buncrana town centre. The noise could be heard around Inishowen! Escorted by the gardai, Inishowen Boys U16’s came home to a hero’s welcome. They won the SFAI Inter League All Ireland championship earlier yesterday in Cahir, Co. Tipperary.
This team of lads have been playing together for many years under the management of Diarmuid O’Brien. They are so deserving of this title and are the first Inishowen team to win the Inter League All Ireland title. O’Brien and his crew were clearly proud of the boys last night. Parents, friends and family members all gathered at Maginn to welcome the boys home.
Earlier in the day, Lee McColgan hit home from the penalty spot early in the second half to give Inishowen the lead over North East Counties. After 71 minutes Aidan Friel secured the win for Inishowen with a rocket of a goal.
The support for this team was evident in the support that travelled to Cahir and the crowds that came out last night to welcome these heroes back. Many congratulations to all involved and enjoy the celebrations boys. You have all earned it!
