School Summer Works Scheme successes for Inishowen
School Summer Works Scheme
Labour councillor, Martin Farren, has welcomed the success of Carndonagh Community School and Culdaff’s Naomh Bodan Primary School in the second round of the school Summer Works Scheme just announced by his party colleague, Minister Ruairi Quinn.
Almost €35 million is being provided by the Department of Education and Skills under the second round of funding for the Summer Works Scheme (SWS) 2014.
280 primary schools and 106 post primary schools will receive the money to refurbish toilets and roofs. They represent almost 80% of the total applications received from schools.
Carndonagh
A total of 13 schools were approved in Donegal with Carndonagh being approved for toilet upgrades and Culdaff for roof repairs.
Commenting on the announcement the Inishowen Labour councillor said “As the Summer Works Scheme is an application based scheme, school authorities should identify and decide on what project they regard as being a priority to address necessary remedial works.
“Schools must then ensure that full and complete applications are submitted in accordance with the scheme.
“This work will ensure that our schools are safe and warm for our students whilst providing jobs in the local economy over the Summer when schools are closed.â€
