Inishowen Clean-up a Big Success

Chairman of Donegal County Council’s Inishowen Electoral Area, Martin Farren, has commended all those volunteers who came out on Saturday to take part in the Big Inishowen Clean-up.

“I would like to thank all those who participated in this important cleaning operation.

“Donegal County Council co-ordinated the clean-up activities and collected all the rubbish gathered but the event could not have happened without the support from volunteers all around the peninsula.

“Tidy Town groups, environmental groups and individuals turned out to help clean their local areas all around Inishowen.

“Taking place in the weekend before the Easter holidays has meant that Inishowen will be looking its best for the start of our Summer season.

Tidy Town

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in keeping their local area clean and tidy to contact their local Tidy Town Committee or other environmental group to volunteer their assistance in this very important effort.

“Tourism is now an essential part of our local industry and having the place look tidy is important for tourist and local, alike.

Hopefully these groups will be able to liaise with the Council to have these clean-up sessions become more regular event s throughout the year.

The Council has pledged to support such initiatives.

Voluntary

I would also like to thank Council staff who came out on Saturday to support the voluntary efforts.

Small initiatives such as this and the re-opening of public toilets and public facilities may not cost a lot but they make an important difference to our local tourism package.

“By working together the Council and Community can enhance the valuable asset that we have in our beautiful scenery” said Farren
