€600, 000 to repair damages to Donegal coastal protection works.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has announced that Donegal County Council will receive up to €662, 000 to repair damages to existing coastal protection and flood defence works affected by the severe weather from 13 December 2013 to 6 January 2014.

Welcoming the announcement Labour councillor, Martin Farren, stated that up to €19.6m funding had been made available nationally for damage repairs to coastal protection and that this allocation is in addition to the €1.38 million already allocated for repairs to other structural damage in Donegal that occurred in the first round of storms.

Donegal’s repair schedule is well advanced so the Labour councillor welcomed the fact that the OPW was adopting a practical approach to address the urgency of these works and to avoid any potential cash-flow issues and, so, would be considering advance funding requests of up to 80% where a contract for works has been made.

Said Martin “Contracts for repairs to the shore paths in Moville and Greencastle went out to tender on 10th and replies will be considered in the week beginning on 24th March so I will be keeping the pressure on to have these areas restored as quickly as possible”.
