Other Voices

Now that the week is upon us, Derry City gears up for the return of Other Voices, for an even bigger and better weekend than last year, with the support of DCAL and Derry City Council.

The Bohicas have been announced as the twelfth and final act for The Glassworks gig on Saturday 8^th February, joining Public Service Broadcasting, Foy Vance, Bell X1 Colm Mac Con Iomaire. Little Matador, The Amazing Snakeheads, Walking on Cars, The Gloaming, Poliça, George Ezra and East India Youth.

 

The Bohicas are Domino’s latest signing, but more accurately they’re four young men from Essex and the east London borderlands, making ambitious and arresting rock ‘n’ roll. They also have a serious stage presence and are destined to be heralded as a great live act.

Local Voices

 

One of the major elements of this year’s Other Voices, is the story of ‘Local Voices’ a new addition to the Other Voices Music Trail. Local Voices is taking the music out in to the neighbourhoods of the Derry City Council area allowing people to engage in the Other Voices experience, from the 5^th to 8^th of February.

People can head to their local cafe, shop, community centre, youth centre or shopping centre and find a range of local talent providing great performances.

Bulrush

 

Performing in Glenview Community Centre, Cedar Street at 7:30pm on Wednesday 5^th February is Bulrush, Caolan McLaughlin, Denis McLaughlin, Momentum Community Choir, Ronan Kearney, Roy Arbuckle, Sync Showcase and many more.

If you don’t make it to that, St Marys Youth Centre, Fanad Drive, Creggan at 7:30pm on Thursday 6^th February will see performances from Declan McLaughlin, Jessica Healey, Kevin Brown, Paddy Nash, Pink Ladies Choir, Rebecca Mulheron, Ryan ODochartaigh, Sync Showcase, Tillie & Henderson plus many more.

Local Musicians

Northside Shopping Centre will feature a selection of local musicians performing at Northside Shopping Centre on Friday 7^th February and Saturday 8^th February from 1pm – 3.30pm.

 

The city’s Waterside area will feature several events as part of the festival.

Lunchtime on Friday 7^th February will feature performances in cafes including Café Zest and The Sandwich Company on Spencer Road and The Leprechaun Cafe on Clooney Terrace.

Additional events will take place in Altnagelvin Hospital with Londonderry Musical Society and Rectory Field Nursing Home with Caolan Moore.

Music Trail

 

The Other Voices Music Trail kicks off on Thursday night in Sandinos with a special gig from Annie Mac.

The trail will then continue for the rest of the weekend with hundreds of performances from bands from across the island of Ireland, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

Highlights of the trail are sure to be Little Bear performing alongside The Inishowen Gospel Choir on Sunday afternoon in St Columb’s Cathedral, Best Boy Grip in St. Augustine’s Church on Saturday afternoon and The Clameens gig at Sandinos on Friday night.

Streamed Live

For those who don’t make it to The Glassworks performances will be streamed live along The Music Trail to a number of venues in the city – Sandinos, Bound for Boston, Masons Bar, The Gweedore, Café Nervosa at the Nerve Centre, The Derby Bar, Tinneys, Bennigans and Grand Central Bar.

If you do not make it to Derry the performances will be streamed live online via www.rte.ie/othervoices, the RTÉ Player and www.theguardian.com/music/other-voices-festival-2014. 

Tickets to the Glassworks are free and can be won through various online and media competitions so keep an eye on the website at http://derry2014.othervoices.ie/tickets for details.

Tickets will also be available across the weekend at various events on The Music Trail and at Local Voices events.
