Sensation as Moville girl wins fashion Oscar
This is from 2008. We rescued the article from an archive of the old CraicOn.
Bronagh Holmes
Moville girl Bronagh Holmes sensationally won the British Fashion Awards Best New Designer of 2007 yesterday.
She beat off fierce competition from the likes of Aimee McWilliams to win what are known as the UK’s Fashion Oscars.
She and her family, Jackie and Eileen Holmes from the Karma Restaurant, must be delighted.
Other Awards
The Top Designer award was won by Stella McCartney.
She must have a very proud parent too.
I wonder if Jackie Holmes will be sharing a word or two with Stella’s dad when the awards are handed out.
Kate Moss
The Best Model Award was won by Kate Moss.
Paul Smith got the Best Menswear Award.
Vivienne Westwood got the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Kate Moss also won the Best Trendsetter Award.
The Future
That’s now – but the future belongs to Moville’s Bronagh Holmes.
Bronagh has just gone back to London after spending Christmas and New Year with her family.
Kate Moss
She has 4 brothers, Damien, Daniel, James, Sean and one sister Katie.
I’m sure her brothers would be happy to meet Kate Moss at the Awards Ceremony.
“Hi Kate. I’m Bronagh Holmes’s brother”, they could say.
Maybe she’d like to bring Kate Moss over for the DylanFest or the Moville Summer Festival.
Style
Hers style has been described as:-
“Bronagh Holmes is a 26 year old London based fashion designer. She focuses on creating: fun, fresh and funky rock/biker chick chic.
“Her designers are bang on trend with the likes of Roberto Cavalli, Burberry and Ralph Lauren who are all once again putting leather into the forefront of fashion”.
Hot Property
The award will have the top fashion houses chasing after hot property Bronagh now.
Congratulations to her!
I must say it was thoroughly deserved.
A Class Apart
Said CraicOn.com owner Gerry McLaughlin “I had a look at Bronagh’s designs and I had a look at those of her competitors for the Best New Designer Award and I thought Bronagh’s were a class apart.
“In fact I thought that they could easily stand up against those in the Best Designer Award category”.
She says she is inspired by Motorbikes and most of her designs are black leather.
This is what Bronagh says in an interview about her All Black Collection.
Inspired By Motorcycles
“Inspired by Motorcycles, my All Black collection incorporated a few elements from biker clothing and actual bike parts. I wanted to create something special, something with an edge yet very feminine and glamorous – couture.
“My collection makes women look like women, but who can kick-ass at any given moment.
Fabrics
“My fabrics ranged from different types of Italian leather, ostrich leg skin, rubber, cashmere wool, Swarovski trim, chiffon and satin back crepe.
“Windscreens were used as corsets and embellished with Swarovski crystals spelling out ‘TRIUMPH’, one of the earliest Motorcycle brands.
“Manipulating the fabrics and playing with various techniques is one of my trade marks.
Sexy Shapes
“Quilted leather & satin, piped leather, panels of corded fabrics and cuts to flatter the figure all made my collection very textural and slick.
“The sexy shapes and luxurious fabrics teamed with thick curved belts with actual Triumph and Norton bike tank badges, gave the collection that edge, an Attitude!”
