Santa in Moville

It’s one of my favourite evenings of the year.

It’s the day Santa comes to Moville.

It all takes place in Moville’s Market Square.

Santa Now a Local

He has got less far to come now that the new Fire Station has been built (he always arrives by Fire Engine).

A few years ago this caused a problem when the fire engine was called out to a fire in Carndonagh and the crowd had to await his arrival in the cold for a couple of hours.

But this year there were no hiccups.

The Sound of Sirens

Up he came to the sound of the sirens.

On went the Christmas Lights and then Santa took his place inside the Grotto along with his helpers.

The children of the town then lined up, along with their parents, to go into the Grotto and receive a bag of goodies each.

Something to Mull Over

The Town Clock had kindly donated mulled wine and fruit punch to their grateful parents and other spectators.

I’m not sure if it was supposed to be one cup each but I had three of the mulled wines.

It went down very well.

Mince Pies

They had also prepared mince pies which they handed out to the assembled crowd.

It felt very festive.

It’s a great occasion and the children just love it.

Highland Fling

Music was a provided on the stage (on the back of a trailer) by Caroline McDermott of Highland Radio and her DJ son Conor.

It was very nice of them to offer and it was much appreciated.

It kept the crowd entertained.

Stayed Mild

The rain even stayed off for the duration of the event and it was reasonably mild until the later stages.

I did notice a film being taken of the event and maybe we will see that soon.

Hard Work Rewarded

I saw many of the organisers in Rosatos afterwards and congratulated Chairman Philip on the success of it.

“Make sure you let them all know that a lot of hard work went into this” he said, and I’ve gladly obliged.

Volunteers

There were a lot of volunteers who helped to make the night a success.

As I said it is one of my favourite evenings of the year and not to be missed.
