John Hume

There were musicians from America, Germany, Holland, England and Scotland but it was an Irishman who stole the show at the 6th annual DylanFest on the Lough in Moville, Donegal.

After a great set by Dutchman Egon Callery and Gary Raymond and top contributions by Michael Moravek who was literally just off the bus from Dublin after flying in from Germany, American Michael Thomas and some local acts, Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume got up and sang a few songs.

Greatest Ever Irishman

John, who won his Nobel Peace Prize for his part in bringing peace to Northern Ireland is the only person to have won the Triple Crown of Peace Prizes, the Nobel Peace Prize, the Ghandi Award and the Martin Luther King Prize, has also been awarded France’s leading honour the Legion of Honour and was recently voted Ireland’s Greatest Ever Person by his fellow Irishmen.

The audience all stood to get a better view and the cameras were out to catch the moment.

He sang Danny Boy and followed that by a Donegal song, sung wholly in the Irish language.

No Direction Home

The crowds at the various venues have been even better than for previous ones and it all bodes well for the big one, No Direction Home night (Saturday) with Michael Moravek and his violin player Kerstin all set to play the Sean Ti, with the Relics of St Valentine from Dublin in Rosatos and Paddy the Shoe in Rawdons.

Prior to that there will be outdoor music at the Putting Green Cafe on the shores of the salmon fishing Lough Foyle in the afternoon from Scotsman Billy McInnes and Englishman John Bradley and from anyone else who wants to turn up and play with the same again on Sunday afternoon.

The Sunday night is always like Last Night at the Proms with all the musicians from the festival getting up to play a few songs along with the booked acts – and then it’s all over and people go their separate ways until they meet up again next year for what is now Europe’s biggest DylanFest.
