Last night saw Ursula & Co. take ‘Club Cabaret Supper Club Special’ to The Beech Hill Pavilion in Derry. A night of music, song and the spoken word ruled the Autumnal evening. Lady J, special guest on the night, wowed the people with her reading of The Great Gatsby and some poetic works. It really was a night with a difference.
The guests were taken back in time with music from the 1930’s and 40’s. Ursula and her amazing band transported everyone back to another era. Dancing was elegant and fun. People from all walks of life swayed to the magical voice of Ursula McHugh and danced to the eloquent music of the band. It could have been another lifetime altogether.
A beautiful supper was served at the interval, before more music, song and poetry filled the Derry air once more. Tables were set with immaculate detail. The stage was very theatrical and very representative of it’s time.
Conversation was rife throughout the night and everyone exchanged stories. The music didn’t falter! Smiles were constant on peoples faces and it was clear that everyone present enjoyed this night with a difference. People travelled from all over Northern Ireland and Donegal to enjoy this glamorous era of the 1940’s silver screen. It was an occasion to dress up and step back in time. Everyone did just that.
The night came to a beautiful end when Ursula presented the very talented Lady J with a bouquet of roses. Jenni Doherty was the first winner of the Noelle Vial Tyrone Guthrie Centre Poetry Bursary earlier this week and enjoyed the celebrations with Club Cabaret and it’s guests last night.
Ursula & Co. will be having more Club Cabaret nights and it definitely will be worth watching out for. It might just be coming to a town near you very soon!
