The city of Derry is buzzing at present with Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2013. The pubs, clubs, theaters, and the streets are alive with Irish traditional music until this coming Sunday.

Great emphasis has also been placed on Fleadh Cheoil ’13 reflecting the digital age, and the groundbreaking FleadhLive, an online music and televised (TG4) show is broadcasting across the world in real-time. History is being made in so many ways.

The occasion has also been celebrated with amazing performances by individuals synonymous with Irish culture in Derry. Poet Laureate Seamus Heaney read to a full house as Liam O’Flynn turned out some beautiful pipe music on Wednesday night. The Millenium theatre felt like a homely living room as the two friends met and others happened to drop by! A very intimate yet mesmerising performance. Cara Dillon and her band entertained last night and collaborated with The Orchestra of Ireland. Another memorable night in Derry.

Throughout the day and night, various musical performances are happening in all the street corners, pubs and halls. There’s something for everyone as you walk around the city.

History has been made this week with this the 62nd Fleadh Cheoil and it’s first across the border. Derry really has welcomed the world and in style!
