The 7th running of Ireland’s only annual BeatlesFest, the BeatlesFest in the Lough, will take place in the colourful Irish town of Moville in County Donegal and its neighbouring fishing village, Greencastle, from August 29th to September 1st. Beatles road manager, Tony Bramwell, said it was the quaintest BeatlesFest that he goes to, having been to three now. Said Tony, “My three favourite places in the world are Nashville, Hawaii and Moville. The people are so friendly and the Guinness is great”.

There will be 4 days of Beatles music indoors and outdoors in the picturesque town and village which lie on a salmon fishing sea lough, Lough Foyle. Brown trout run through the River Bredagh which joins Lough Foyle at Moville.

Beatles fans will be able to listen to Beatles music at the Putting Green Cafe which overlooks Lough Foyle and in the main square of the town. It will also take place in at least 5 pubs in the town, including Rosatos, which recently won the top Irish Award for Best Traditional Pub of the year.

This year, organiser, Gerry McLaughlin, is asking people to come in Sixties Gear and for the girls to wear Sixties make-up. He is asking the local charity shops to stock it. The local nightclub will also have a Sixties night that weekend so that youngsters can wear their Sixties Gear out in the evening and then go straight on to Sixties Night at the Disco.

DylanFest

The previous weekend, from August 22nd to 25th, Moville & Greencastle will hold Ireland’s only annual DylanFest, Stuck Inside of Moville, which is now the biggest DylanFest in Europe. There will be a Sixties Week running from August 22nd to September 1st which encompasses both festivals and the week in between.

This is the Year of The gathering in Ireland when the Irish Diaspora are being asked to come back and visit Ireland and thousands of Events have been put on to attract them and both festivals are part of this.

If you missed the Sixties, Donegal is the place to be at the end of August.

There are still gig slots available for good Beatles acts and for those that want to play in Open Mics. Contact [email protected] and see www.CraicOn.com for further details.
