Muff Youth Ultan McCool wins Juvenile Captains Day Prize 2013 at Foyle Golf Club!
Six years ago this month I was the very proud Mother of the youngest ever winner of Captains Day at Redcastle Golf Club! My eldest son (then 16 years old) teed off in the adult male Captains Day and won! Hearing him deliver his speech that night in front of a couple of hundred people was very moving.
Last night was equally moving as my youngest son Ultan (15 years old) won the Juvenile Captains Day Prize at Foyle Golf Centre, Culmore!
Having started playing golf just less than two years ago, Ultan is a devoted golfer and any spare hour he has is given to the greens at Foyle Golf club. Between School, Soccer and Gaelic he always manages to find time to tee off! Just recently on the evening before his Junior Cert exams began, he decided to unwind on the golf course (convinced his mother he needed to de-stress!!). Come rain, hail, or sunshine he can be found playing a minimum of 18 holes at any given time of the day!
Only recently he acquired his handicap and yesterday was his first Captains Day. He teed off at 1.32pm and we got the phone call at 7.15pm to say he had won.
Very proud parents and his Uncle Ciaran and (near Auntie) Audrey were among the guests at the Foyle Golf Club’s presentation last night at Pitchers Wine Bar and Restaurant.
Here’s to many more happy years on the golf course for Ultan!
