Last night saw the first game kick off in the 4th annual Philip Lafferty Memorial Shield. Finn Harps U19 took on Derry City U19. An exciting game ensued with a final score of 1.1. The game finished on penalties with Derry winning!
The next game takes place on Tuesday night 28th May at 7.30pm in Redcastle. This will see Redcastle take on Inishowen. A good match is guaranteed. A few of the Lafferty clan will be wearing the Redcastle colours on the night! The winners of this will then play for the shield against Derry on Thursday 30th May, again in Redcastle.
Redcastle Football Club has been running this tournament in memory of Philip since 2010. Philip sadly passed away in November 2009. An advocate of the game he left a legacy not only with his beloved Redcastle but with football all over Inishowen. Philip was a well known player (and a good one at that) and his love of the game was evident throughout his life.
All proceeds from the tournament will be going towards the Foyle Hospice and support is greatly appreciated.
