For the first time in the history of the North West, Quigleys Point Swifts Football Club and Ulster karate-Do Federation hosted a Red or Black night last Saturday in the Halfway House, Burnfoot. There was a selection of risky games prepared for the night including ones of  chance, daring and courage. Excitement lurked around every corner! And boy there were some some surprises!
The night consisted of a variety of games and an all enthusiastic audience. There was pole dancing, cycling, sumo bun-geeing and much more! For those unable to attend on the night, the function was streamed live online. Many including myself watched the live stream.
The final consisted of a local man Peter McLaughlin and Drung lady  Bernie Anderson. Peter and Bernie were competing for €1000 and only one of them could win it! Peter and Bernie had a brief chat before the end result which included a little talk on Bernie’s families close acquaintance with The Mater Hospital in Dublin. On winning the €1000 Peter McLaughlin immediately announced that he was donating the entire sum to The Mater Hospital.
This was welcomed very warmly by the audience and Bernie was left almost speechless (which I can assure you does NOT happen very often!). Â This kind donation by Peter McLaughlin shows just how caring and compassionate some people can be. In such tough times in the modern world it’s a delight to know that we have such kindness in our midst. A lovely huge gesture from a local man in this small village.
The night was a roaring success in more ways than one, and no doubt other nights will follow…..
