Local man, Paul McCool, will be running in The Spar Great Ireland Run this coming Sunday at 1pm in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. This will be Paul’s 3rd consecutive Great Ireland Run. He will be among celebrities this year such as Keith Barry, Grainne Seoige and Brian Kennedy.

Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation

Paul has been raising funds over recent weeks for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation. The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation provides direct funding to families of children with brain damage who suffer severe intellectual and physical developmental delay, enabling them to purchase home respite care. These are children who as a result of their condition require intensive home nursing care. The Foundation gives these families the Gift of time, time to do the things that we so often take for granted like shopping, taking their other children to the park, a night’s sleep etc.

Competition

Paul normally runs alongside his brother in law and sister in law but this year they have both reneged on a technicality!  The competition between them rises each year so it might well be that they are unable to keep up to his time and unable to admit it! So it will be the McCauley clan, Stauntons and many friends and family who will be lining the 10k route in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, to cheer him on this Sunday afternoon.

‘Jack fell down and broke his crown, and Jill came tumbling after’

Here’s hoping he neither comes tumbling down or breaks his crown this coming Sunday! Having run this race in the past I do know there are two pretty steep hills en route, so we’ll keep a close eye at these areas!

Support

Paul has been supported locally and farther afield in his fundraising and he’ s now looking forward to the day and getting the run underway. No doubt he’ll also be looking forward to his pint of Guinness in Nancy Hands bar afterwards. He normally does!
