Be Who You Are – childrens book with a message
Be Who You Are is a childrens book due to be launched tomorrow night, March 1st at the Parish Centre in Stranorlar at 6pm. This book is aimed at 5-12 year olds although there is a message in this story for everyone. It is highly recommended for all young people to read.
This is an inspiring children’s book designed, produced and illustrated by four transition year students Tamara Bradley, Aoife Kelly, Siobhan Mc Menamin and Roisin Doherty, from St. Columba’s College, Stranorlar, Co. Donegal. Tamara Bradley is the great granddaughter of one of Muff’s late residents, the wonderful and inspirational Mrs Rose Bradley. Unfortunately Mrs Bradley is no longer with us but she would be very proud of her great grand daughter’s achievement with this book.
This book tackles issues such as racism, low self-esteem, confidence , cyber bullying and disabilities. Telling the story in a light hearted fun approach, and inspiring the reader to feel good no matter what the situation, be themselves and reach their full potential. It encourages young people to be happy and confident with who they are. Each person is unique and should celebrate this.
The book is partially funded and sponsored by Niall Mulrine (www.CyberSafetyAdvice.com) and Pat the Cope Gallagher (MEP), both strong advocates of raising self esteem and confidence in young people in these difficult times. Pat the Cope Gallagher will launch this book tomorrow evening.
From a social justice point of view the girls are donating a percentage of the profits to The Bluestack Special Needs Foundation in Donegal Town, an organisation that offers help and support to special needs children and their families in the county. The mini-company has already attracted great interest and this group of hard working Transition Years have already got through to the next round of the Junior Achievement Awards.
The girls have said “We believe it is important to draw attention to this issue, it is written by young people for young people. If we can encourage just one person that they can be themselves no matter what then we will be very happy with what we have producedâ€.
This issue is such a strong topic in our society in the present day. This makes it even more relevant for the girls to have produced it at this time. Everyone is welcome to the launch so do go along and support the girls in this excellent project.
