Castle Inn Songwriter Contest shaping up to be a Craicer
The first heat of the 2013 MAGMA Songwriter Contest in Rosatos last Friday night got the Competition off to a great start with some fine songs and some great performances. However, the second heat in the Castle Inn promises to be a cracker. As well as many of the acts from the first heat there will be at least 6 new acts – all of them of high quality.
Making their debut in the contest will be top Derry band Deadpool. Also coming from Derry will be String Fellas who are well-known around Moville and will have a chance to sing some of their own songs.
Also coming will be young Rosie Carney, a 15-year-old of very high promise from some other part of Donegal who already has a manager and is just back from the US.
Spring Tides
It will also cause some excitement that Spring Tides songwriter James O’Donnell will come along and perform a couple of his songs possibly in conjunction with Sean McGranaghan. That will be a nice treat for fans of the now defunct Spring Tides.
Young Jessica Harkin was sick for the first heat in Rosatos but is confirmed for the 2nd heat at the Castle Inn. She will be accompanied on one of the songs by her mum Gina who will play the fiddle. Jessica was one of the acts picked out by Tony Bramwell when he saw her play at the talent night at the BeatlesFest last year. Gina will also sing her brother Conal’s song Don’t Run.
Micky McCarron from Muff, brother of Karl McCarron who played in the first heat will also play.
Jack Craig
Definitely confirmed are Jack Craig who is coming again from Derry who finished 4th in the Songwriter Contest there. He will be singing arguably his best song In Your Company.
Danny Doherty from Muff said he will come again if he is not working.
Young Laura Bonner, who won the Talent Contest at Rawdons, and who performed so admirably in the first heat is confirmed as coming again. Martin Moir is confirmed too.
Waiting to Hear
John Bradley, Susie Donaghy, Debbie & Geraldine and Leo McCauley of the 9 acts from the first heat are confirmed as not coming and we are waiting to hear from Karl McCarron from Muff.
The Castle Inn heat will take place on Friday March 8th at 10pm. Further info from [email protected]
