There was a tremendous night for the first heat of the Songwriter Contest in Rosatos on Friday night.

There was a host of talent and lots of great originals and covers.

There were 9 acts altogether which should have meant 36 songs.

The format was that it was one cover song for each original and the acts were up twice.

However, for the last few we had to cut out the cover songs as we were short of time.

Appearing at Rosatos were Jack Craig and Susan Donaghy from Derry, Karl McCarron from Muff, Danny Doherty from Carndonagh, John Bradley from Buncrana, Laura Bonner from Greencastle and Leo McCauley, Martin Moir and Debbie McDaid & Geraldine Cavanagh from Moville.

There was a very good crowd for a Friday night in February, just after the start of Lent.

It bodes well for the other heats in the Castle Inn on March 8th and the Sean Ti on April 5th.

New Heats

All of the acts from last night can enter two new songs for each of the heats to come.

Also, we have four more acts who haven’t appeared yet who will be playing at the Castle Inn, i.e. Rosie Carney a great 15-year-old singer songwriter, James O’Donnell ex-of Spring Tides, String Fellas from Derry and one other full band.

The last two wanted a place more suitable for a full band and so waited for the Castle Inn and maybe the Sean Ti too.

I think Tony Bramwell is going to be surprised by the quality when he comes over in late April for the semis and final.
